A) Looking for non-GMO Seed? - Jim Beuerlein, Harold Watters

There has been much interest in growing non-Roundup Ready soybeans in Ohio.
We have a number of markets in southern, central and northern Ohio that are offering significant premiums for these non-GMO soybeans. Generally lower seed prices and the attraction of the premiums have lead to a lot of interest and in some cases depletion of seed stocks.

Weed control cost and control program for non-GMO's were discussed by Dr Mark Loux in the 2008-39 issue of CORN which can be found at:
http://corn.osu.edu/story.php?setissueID=269&storyID=1630. A factsheet highlighting programs weed control for non-GMO is presented in the next newsletter article.

If you have trouble finding non-Roundup Ready soybean varieties to grow to meet these premium contracts and markets, here is a listing of seed suppliers who may still have non-GMO seed to offer:

B) Weed Management in non-GMO soybeans - Mark Loux

Weed scientists at OSU and Purdue have produced a new fact sheet, Herbicide Programs for non-GMO soybeans. This fact sheet lists the essential components of weed management in non-GMO soybeans, which include a weed-free start at planting, use of residual (PRE) herbicides, and postemergence herbicide application to small weeds. We also outline what we believe to be the most effective postemergence herbicide approach in non-GMO soybeans, based on the relatively widespread occurrence of ALS-resistant weeds. The fact sheet can be downloaded from the OSU weed science website,
http://agcrops.osu.edu/weeds.
